Top Ten Items a New Mom Needs – Part 2

5 January, 2011 at 6:15 pm in Blog // (0) Comment

3) Diaper Bag

In my opinion, new moms will need two diaper bags. One small diaper bag for the quick trips and one big diaper bag for the all day outings. I have four altogether because I have two girls, but a diaper bag is a must. Preferably one with plenty of pockets so that you may store all the necessities such as pacifiers, hand sanitizers, etc. Babies come with lots of accessories like women do so it is only natural that they have bags of their own.

4) Travel Systems

New parents normally purchase travel items separately. For example, you buy a car seat and then you buy the stroller. I should know because I did this with my first daughter. Later, I found that many baby brands sell something called Travel Systems. These Travel Systems include a stroller, car seat and a car seat base (a base is what you use to secure the car seat into your car). Graco makes a fabulous line of Travel Systems. They come in different colors and patterns, not to mention they are extremely affordable if you’re trying to save a penny. They always meet car safety requirements, but if you’re unsure, you can always go on-line and read reviews as well as current car seat safety laws just to make sure.

Essential Maternity Clothes to Purchase for a Comfortable Pregnancy – Part 2

11 November, 2010 at 11:05 am in Blog // (0) Comment

Pregnancy is a wonderful time, the feeling of growing a life inside you is indescribable. Unfortunately with the ups, come the downs! One of the major downs of pregnancy is the uncomfortable, and sometimes painful, feelings as your skin stretches to accommodate baby. Your clothes seem to be getting smaller, as you are getting bigger. There are some essential maternity clothes you should purchase for a comfortable pregnancy, making life easier for you and baby.

PART 2: TROUSERS

Nowadays, most maternity clothes are styled alongside the trends of the day. There are three main styles of waist though:

  • Over-the-bump – these trousers have a jersey panel that stretches over your bump to give ultimate comfort when sitting down.
  • On-the-bump – styled to sit on your bump, jersey panels are inserted into the sides of the trousers to give some stretch.
  • Under-the-bump – low slung trousers are designed to sit underneath the bump to avoid restriction.

As with knickers, it is advisable to have all kinds in your wardrobe to suit your mood. Make sure you buy several pairs for different occasions. Keep a pair especially for nights out with your friends and other half, so that you can still look your best. Also keep a pair for doing day-to-day work such as decorating the nursery so that you don’t ruin other clothes.

Top Ten Items a New Mom Needs – Part 1

1 November, 2010 at 2:52 pm in Blog // (0) Comment

The first thing a new mom should know is ignore all the gizmo’s and gadgets that claim to do this or claim to do that. In my opinion, stick with what you know you need. I have two daughters, a 22 month old and an 11 month old. I had so many unnecessary things that I bought for my first daughter, but from that whole experience, I learned what items I truly needed for my second. My list is in no particular order, I pretty much needed all these items fairly equally.

1) Diapers

Diapers are an obvious necessity for any baby whether it be cloth or disposable. I personally use disposable and I have tried every diaper under the sun! Pampers Swaddlers were what the hospital sent us home with and I LOVED these diapers, but they were fairly pricey. So, as an alternative, I highly recommend Kirkland’s from Costco. They cost as much as Pampers brands, but come with much more and the material is absolutely wonderful. It never leaks (from my experience) and they too have cute characters (not popular characters), but who’s paying attention, right?

2) Breastfeeding Cover (for Breastfeeding Mommies)

If you are the type of mom who is shy about exposing your breast when out in public then I recommend purchasing one of these. You can find them at Target, Babies R’ Us, and any other store that carries baby products. There are specific covers designed in a way that allows you to see your little one as they breastfeed. There is an opening at the top which allows you to see your little one as they eat, not to mention, it allows more air to flow through and you won’t feel as though your infant is being smothered. It’s perfect for when you’re out in public and don’t have time to find somewhere private to feed your little one.

Essential Maternity Clothes to Purchase for a Comfortable Pregnancy – Part 1

28 October, 2010 at 11:00 am in Blog // (0) Comment

Pregnancy is a wonderful time, the feeling of growing a life inside you is indescribable. Unfortunately with the ups, come the downs! One of the major downs of pregnancy is the uncomfortable, and sometimes painful, feelings as your skin stretches to accommodate baby. Your clothes seem to be getting smaller, as you are getting bigger. There are some essential maternity clothes you should purchase for a comfortable pregnancy, making life easier for you and baby.

Part 1: Underwear

One of the first changes to a pregnant body is the breasts beginning to enlarge and swell as the milk ducts get ready to produce baby’s vital first feed. A correct fitting bra is essential for any woman, but even more important for a pregnant lady. The correct support will help to avoid sagging, discomfort and pain.

  • Avoid wire – underwired bras can block the milk ducts causing pain, and in some cases mastitis. It is advisable to start wearing a non-wired bra as soon as you discover you are pregnant.
  • Full cup – there are many different styles of bra to choose from, but most maternity bras will be a full cup. A full cup will give you more support.
  • Different sizes – your breasts will change shape and size throughout your pregnancy and can continue to do so up to a year after the baby is born, depending on how long it takes for your milk supply to cease. Buying several sizes of bra is advisable to ensure that you always have a correctly sized bra. It is typical for breasts to increase by 3 sizes, but this does vary from woman to woman.

As well as bras, knickers, or pants, can also be important to a pregnant woman. Everyday underwear can sometimes cut into the bump, or become tight. It is advisable to invest in some comfortable knickers. You can now buy low cut pants, which sit under your bump, or some larger knickers that go over your bump. Having both kinds is a good idea, as your comfort changes from day to day.

Planning Your Maternity Wardrobe: Tips for Buying and Wearing Maternity Clothes

28 October, 2010 at 10:35 am in Blog // (0) Comment

The good news for all newly pregnant women and those planning to become pregnant is that the diversity and availability of maternity clothes had improved in recent years.

For expectant women bursting with the desire to find some stylish maternity outfits, luck is their side. maternity fashions today can be economical and attractive.

HOW MUCH MONEY SHOULD YOU INVEST IN MATERNITY CLOTHES?
  • Consider your budget and how much you have to spend on a temporary wardrobe. If this is a first pregnancy and the plan is to become pregnant again within a couple years, invest in a little more expensive and quality items. If you are uncertain about future pregnancies, perhaps the budget may be a lower amount.
  • Look for inexpensive places to find used maternity clothes. Often times many maternity clothes are lightly used and mothers who are no longer planning to become pregnant again are willing to sell or donate them to you. Talk with friends and family that are close to your size.
  • Check out clearance racks. They may be out of season when your pregnancy begins, but they will probably be just what you need at the end of the pregnancy.

WHAT CLOTHING ITEMS WILL I NEED TO PURCHASE?
  • Generally keep the idea of about a one week wardrobe in mind. What items will you need to make it through an entire normal week of your life? If you work professionally, to begin you will want to purchase 5 professional outfits. You will want to purchase a minimum of 2 casual outfits for the weekend which can double for evenings at home.
  • If you want to get by less expensively, plan to do some laundering and wearing the same outfit more frequently.
  • Buy great basics much like you would wear in your current lifestyle. Purchase a great pair of black pants and a nice white maternity blouse for certain. These can be worn together and then separated out to other pieces so that it appears that you have more outfits than you really do. Buy a couple pairs of maternity jeans. These will be the most used items in the wardrobe.
  • Don’t think that you need to purchase an entire wardrobe right away. Remember your size will change and what fit and 5 months may not fit at 8 months. Also when you become tired of certain outfits, you will want to add something new every once in awhile to perk you up.
  • Look for clothing that has versatility to the sizes so that they can be tightened up at 5 months and loosened up at 8 months. Many styles have tab inserts in the inside of the waist band that allow for flexibility.
  • Pregnancy usually equates to extra warmth. Don’t become too caught up in layering items and wearing something sleeveless in the winter may be comfortable. So purchasing lightweight rather than heavy clothing such as sweaters will serve the pregnant woman much more for the long term.

Gone are the days of poorly designed maternity wear. Enjoy the experience of being pregnant and show off your beautiful pregnant body with some stylish maternity fashion.
